Just quickly before you run out the door.

Involuntary convulsions toward the desire.

Cloak the disbelievers and sit with me.

Drink some tea.

Wisconsin Death Trip.

Photographs taken by Charles Van Schaick. A series taken from 1885 to 1910 documenting scenes within a small rural community.
Somber and morose. Titillatingly beautiful.

Paint.

Feeling portraiture at the moment, I never really had appreciated contemporary portraiture till I paid attention (rather than sub consciously Art blocked as I often do due to the nature of full time art school immersion). Peter Stichburys smooth use of paint and play's on over exaggerated/under exaggerated facial features is something special. They speak to me of the fine line between our perceived beauty and reality. Painting really is a true communication of life's subtlety when executed with such grace as Stichbury.

This work by Andrew Barns-Graham really makes me gaaahh gaa looo crazy. Plum lips, Cascading blonde curls and independence shining through her eyes.

Kimbra.

Latest Musical Addiction... Kimbra

Her soulful quirk has been keeping me hooked lately. I love her mix of intriguing vocal techniques and sincere, provoking yet strangely soothing lyrics.

Plus I am just in love with the styling of "Settle Down"; The nostalgic visual reference's and an airy creep induced by the use of innocent adolescent girls in the role of a pained wife. It's so nice to see a video that pays attention to narrative elements whilst still achieving up beat and fun movement.

Cant wait to see more from this Talented soulstress!

Christopher Kane.

Monkey SS 09.

Resort Collection 2010.

I simply love Christopher Kane. His dark graphic prints paired with simple tailoring ;feminine detailing done without loosing its edge or becoming kitschy/pretty. Drool..

Mood.

Lately I have been in a quite a malaise mood;feeling a darker aesthetic,a slower pace and alot of reflective thought. I could be embracing the moody dark cold weather that surrounds me at the moment? Anyway I thought I would share with you some tracks that have been fitting my mood...

Inspire.

I just thought I would share with you this beautiful image that has been inspiring me as of late. The little boy with praying hands and the ethereal girl staring gloomily into the lens just provokes something within me.
I am putting it on a screen so hopefully I can produce some nice prints!

I am going to be better blogger from now on, pinky promise.

A Single Man.

Very occasionally I watch a film that captures me and draws me into the story and world that it presents to me. It has to be a special type of film for me to shut off and fully commit to the reality of the message.

A single man captivated me.

The film is Tom Fords directorial debut, A Single Man is set in Santa Monica in the 1960s and follows a day in the life of a gay College professor trying to deal with aching loss of his life partner 8 months earlier. The films external message is one of simplicity, learning to love the small pleasures in life, appreciating each little flicker of beauty within the most seemingly mundane things, living your life in the moment. This film speaks a great deal about the impact grief and loss can have on ones perception on life.

The Art Direction presented subtle touches that allowed me to fully engage throughout the entirety of the film and not once did I break my involvement in the story. The set was built by the same team as Mad Men's and the Romance of the 1960's only adds to the beautiful nature of this film.

Heartbreakingly tender, Intense, Thought Provoking.

It is a must see, this film will be swirling round in my head for a while yet and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Draw me.

My art practice at the moment is focused around painting and I am lucky enough to be able to do a life painting class once a week, a thoroughly enjoyable experience and I be will so very sad when the privilege is gone. Life drawing is an amazing experience, the human figure is a beautiful thing that needs to be celebrated and studied.

Egon Schiele was an Austrian artist who was heavily associated with the Art Nouveau movement but it also considered an early artist involved in the expressionist movement.

I am heavily influenced by his work in my own practice and hope to create a painting of the figure that pays homage.

The intensity, twisted figures, loose mark making, neutral tones, somewhat grotesque. Worship!

Cinders and Rain.

I thought I would share with you my current musical obsession, Bat for Lashes aka Natasha Khan.
Her soft airy vocals and killer syn thy yet soft compositions have been dominating my ears as of late. I'm quite bi polar with my music tastes; I have pretty much been obsessed with every genre under the sun at one point of time or another but Bat for Lashes is my ideal style, a mix of everything; whimsical, moody, dark and thought provoking. It is the perfect sound for painting, sewing , writing, making tea and is the soundtrack to my life... till the next obsession of course.

Love me.

I love the relaxed nature of this editorial for Lula's spring edition.
The washed out quality, the domestic setting and the simple sophisticated styling all work collectively to create a very mellow and sweet piece.

Gorgeous Mind

I think the first time I laid eyes on Andrew Mukamal whilst watching Kell on Earth I knew that he was going to turn into an obsession. Andrew is Assistant to the fashion power woman that is Kelly Cutrone and has ridiculously good taste.
In the video below Andrew offers his observations on the power fashion holds, how clothing affects your perception within society and many more wonderful thoughts.
A welcome insight into a very intriguing mind.

Dork in Cream.

Wanted to share my favourite item of the moment, this huge cream cable knit jumper that I found at The Salvation Army. Perfect fix for my obsession with heavy wool knits. I think it was knitted for an obese man......
Love that I can wake up in the morning and throw it on, no thought needed.

Thanks to the Lovely Steven for putting up with my awkward presence in front of the lens.
Check his and my good friend Andrew's blog out at kiwipaparazzi.blogspot.com ,it's a great read!

Lobster Love.

Source.Fashion Gone Rogue
I adore this editorial with Abbey Kee Kershaw ( one of my favourite models because of her soft yet striking face + i love her chin!). Metal bones?! Yes! very GAGA lobster Treacy Headpeice, this is a body version, and may I say more wearable?
And those nude printed leggings, wearing a painting on your legs is really appealing to me. The formal qualities of the fitted pieces paired with the organic nature of fur and tulle is lovely.

Fur, Sequins, Leggings and Odd metal objects are my weak points.

RASTA MONSTA

How to make it in America
Since being put onto this show by my brother I have become addicted and cant wait for season two.
Whats better than a young raw take on the achieving the new american dream.
Its different take on New York, seems a more realistic portrayal of everyday life in NYC for a young person trying to make it in something they are passionate about, although Iv never been so ....?
The soundtrack is almost as good as the show, I have thrashed the mix tape and I'm still not tiering of this tune...

Plus I may be a little in Love with the lead star... Ben.......

I love the soft natural aesthetic of this editorial by Aneta Bartos for Zoo.
Beautiful drapery, white and nude and a subtle moodiness.
